What Merry-Go-Round Is About
In pre-war Vienna a count hides who he is and, passing himself off as a necktie salesman, gets close to the daughter of an organ grinder who works at the fair. She believes him, but he is engaged to the daughter of the country’s minister of war and tries to keep both lives going. When the war comes, the fair and the court alike fall apart and each is left with what has come to them. Erich von Stroheim began the production; six weeks in, the studio dismissed him and put Rupert Julian in his place, and most of the film was shot that way. Norman Kerry and Mary Philbin appear in the hundred and ten minute silent American film.
