What Messengers Is About
Naomi Shimizu is a young woman working for an Italian fashion house. One day the company declares bankruptcy. Used to living in luxury, Naomi tries to make off with the last asset the company has left, a red sports car. On the way she hits a bicycle messenger. Having no money to pay a settlement, she has to agree to work in that messenger’s place. The job turns out far harder than anything she imagined: rain, hills, angry drivers and not a word of thanks from anyone. The film tells the price of changing class somewhere between comedy and drama. Working as a bicycle messenger is both the occupation and the test of the account. Naoko Iijima and Tsuyoshi Kusanagi appear in Yasuo Baba’s hundred and eighteen minute Japanese film, completed in 1999.
