What Mies, joka ei osannut sanoa ei Is About
A young priest comes back from America and takes up a post in an old Helsinki neighbourhood of wooden houses. Shy but good looking, he is given the job of marriage counselling, and before long he is buried under the attention directed at him. Because he is trying to please everybody, he also takes both sides in the argument about the neighbourhood’s future: he agrees with the people who want the old houses kept and with the developers’ plan to redevelop. The film presents the inability to say no not as a trait of character but as a social bind. Antti Litja plays the lead in Risto Jarva’s hundred and three minute Finnish film, completed in 1975.
