What Minuscule: Valley of the Lost Ants Is About
A box of sugar left in the forest after a picnic starts a war among the ants. A lost ladybird chick ends up on the side of the red ants. There is no dialogue at all. The insects are computer animated and the forest is live action, the two composited together, with sound design standing in for speech. The narrative uses the shape of a siege film and makes the fortress a sugar box. Helene Giraud and Thomas Szabo directed. It follows a short series of the same name. It is a French and Belgian production. Who it's for: those looking for animation to watch with small children that needs no language. Who it's not for: adult viewers wanting depth of story; the narrative is deliberately simple.
