What Miso Hungry Is About

The Australian comedian and actor Craig Anderson agrees to eat nothing but traditional Japanese food for twelve weeks. The documentary turns the Supersize Me experiment the other way round: a diet trial set up to improve health rather than damage it. Anderson starts sixty kilos overweight, with raised liver values and lab results putting him at risk of heart disease and diabetes; after twelve weeks he has lost more than twenty kilos and his blood markers have improved. Tim Delmastro directed. This should be said: it is one man’s experience, not a scientific study, and the generalisations the film makes about Japanese eating are its own argument. It came out in November 2015.
