What Mission Kashmir Is About
Inayat Khan, a police officer serving in Kashmir, is pursuing Hilal Kohistani, the leader of a militant group, when a raid he leads causes the deaths of an entire family; the only survivor is a boy named Altaaf. Inayat, who has just lost his own son, adopts the child at his wife's insistence. But one day Altaaf works out who the masked man who killed his family was, and runs. Years later he comes back armed. Vidhu Vinod Chopra's film uses the conflict in Kashmir as its background, with Sanjay Dutt as Inayat and Hrithik Roshan as Altaaf. Its political position was argued about in India as well; what it tells is a story of revenge and of a father and a son.
