What Moments Like This Never Last Is About
Cheryl Dunn's 2021 documentary is about the artist Dash Snow. He came from a wealthy family, rejected it and began with graffiti on the streets of New York, becoming known in the art world within a short time. The material is Snow's own record. Polaroids, home video and notebooks are used, with his friends and fellow artists describing the period. The narrative does not glorify the way of life. Drug use and how the nights went are shown openly; Snow died of an overdose before he was thirty, and the documentary does not present that as an inevitable ending. Who it's for: those who follow documentary on contemporary art and New York subcultures. Who it's not for: viewers for whom addiction and death at a young age would sit heavily.
