Moon Man

The Moon Man lives alone on the moon and watches from afar as children on earth dance and laugh, and misses them. One night he grabs hold of a passing comet and comes down to earth. But this thing arriving from the sky means an attack as far as the President is concerned, and he sets his army after it at once. While escaping, the Moon Man actually gets to see the earth. Directed by Stephan Schesch, the animation was adapted from Tomi Ungerer's children's book of the same name; Ungerer's own drawing sets the film's visual language. The telling moves through pictures rather than words and there is almost no dialogue. Its subject is loneliness and belonging, and it also mocks, lightly but clearly, the way power treats anything new as a threat. Ungerer appears in the film as its narrator.
