What Morituri Is About
During the Second World War a German living in India is blackmailed by the British into a mission: to pose as an SS officer aboard a cargo ship carrying rubber from Japan to Germany and disable its scuttling charges. The captain is determined to sink his ship if it comes to that. So the two men fight a war of patience on deck without knowing who the other is. Marlon Brando faces Yul Brynner. The director Bernhard Wicki had previously made The Bridge, one of Germany's hardest anti-war films. Its black and white photography was Oscar-nominated.
