What Mosul Is About
This is a documentary and should not be confused with the fiction film of the same name released the same year, which followed the Nineveh SWAT team as an action picture. Dan Gabriel's film follows the retaking of Mosul from the Islamic State by staying beside the people who remained in the city and the local units doing the fighting. The combat footage is real; ruined districts, civilian losses and what is left of the city are shown directly. It builds no heroic narrative, it records how a city was destroyed.
