What Mr. Robinson Is About
A modern Italian businessman is shipwrecked on a deserted island. Like Robinson Crusoe he has to survive, except that as a twentieth-century man he can do nothing at all, which is where the comedy comes from. Sergio Corbucci, after his spaghetti westerns, is working in pure parody here, and Paolo Villaggio was expert at playing the useless man. What the film does with the woman on the island belongs to seventies Italian comedy, though: she is written as exotic scenery rather than a character, and that part is plainly uncomfortable now.
