What Mrs Palfrey at The Claremont Is About
Widowed, Mrs Palfrey takes a room at the Claremont, a residential hotel for the elderly in London. The other residents are much like her; all of them talk about someone who is coming to visit and nobody ever visits anyone. Mrs Palfrey is waiting for her grandson, and he does not come. She falls in the street and a young writer, Ludovic, picks her up. She introduces him to the others as her grandson. Ludovic goes along with it, and a real friendship grows between them. Dan Ireland directs, adapting the novel by Elizabeth Taylor, the English novelist rather than the famous actress of the same name. Joan Plowright plays Mrs Palfrey and Rupert Friend plays Ludovic.
