ACP Antony Moses is close to identifying the killer of his friend and fellow officer Aaryan when an accident takes part of his memory. Reassigned to the same case, he has to follow the trail he left himself. The investigator becomes the object of the investigation. Written by Bobby and Sanjay and directed by Rosshan Andrrews, the film sits in the noir vein of Malayalam cinema. It advances through flashback and gives the audience no more than it gives its lead. Prithviraj Sukumaran is willing to play Antony hard and unlikeable; Jayasurya and Rahman fill out the cast. The revelation in the final act went somewhere Malayalam cinema had not gone in 2013, and the film has been argued over ever since. For some critics it is a landmark; for others its handling of that material is the problem. Who it's for: Viewers who like amnesia-driven police thrillers and crime films that refuse to make their lead comfortable. Who it's not for: The protagonist is not trying to be likeable, and the way the final act treats its subject is open to criticism from where we stand now.
