Munnariyippu

Venu's 2014 Malayalam film follows Raghavan, released after a long sentence. A quiet man who asks for nothing, the notes he wrote in prison catch a journalist's attention and she wants to turn his story into a book. The subject is taking possession of someone's story. Anjali needs the material to prove herself; Raghavan does not want to tell it, and as her insistence grows the relationship moves from help to pressure. Mammootty leads and his performance rests largely on silence. The narrative builds its tension through uncertainty rather than event; what Raghavan actually did is unclear until the end and the film gives no definite answer. Who it's for: those who like Malayalam character drama and open-ended narrative. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a clear resolution; the film withholds certainty even in its final scene.
