Undisputed II: Last Man Standing

Undisputed II: Last Man Standing (2006) went straight to video, has almost nothing to do with the first film, and became a cult item among genre fans. The reason is the fight choreography. Heavyweight champion Iceman is jailed in Russia on fabricated drug charges. To get out he has to fight the prison's own champion, Yuri Boyka. The script exists to arrange that, and the film is honest about it. The real event is Scott Adkins as Boyka. He is written as the villain and played so well that the rest of the series was rebuilt around him. Isaac Florentine refuses to put the camera in front of the fighting: wide framing, few cuts, almost no slow motion. You can see that the performers are actually doing it. This is a completely different school from modern fast cut action. It runs 93 minutes. Good for: martial arts films, prison action, and anyone who watches for the choreography itself. You do not need the first film. Less good for: the fights are bloody and the breaks are audible. Anyone wanting story, character or realism is in the wrong place.
