What Murder Most Foul Is About
Margaret Rutherford's Miss Marple sits on a murder jury, holds out alone because she believes the defendant is innocent, and when the jury cannot agree and the case collapses she opens her own investigation. The trail leads to a touring theatre company, so this time Marple has to go on stage. Directed by George Pollock, the film, like the rest of the series, is adapted from an Agatha Christie novel written for Poirot with the detective swapped out; Christie disliked these adaptations. Rutherford's self-assurance and apparent invulnerability carry it regardless. Ron Goodwin's familiar theme is in place again. It is short and in black and white. Who it is for: viewers who like sixties British murder comedies. Who it is not for: anyone wanting a faithful adaptation.
