What My Mother's Courage Is About
In July 1944 a round up was carried out in Budapest. Four thousand Jews were gathered and sent to Auschwitz. Among them was an elderly woman. The woman is the mother of George Tabori. The film tells what she went through that day. The narrator is Tabori himself. He passes the events on as her son. The mother is put on the train and the journey begins. She does not reach the end of that road. The woman manages to come back from it. One reason for that is chance. Another is her own composure. Another is help arriving from where it was least expected. The woman being spoken of is one of those four thousand. Pauline Collins and George Tabori appear in the ninety three minute film, an Austrian, German and British co-production Michael Verhoeven finished in 1995.
