My Secret Cache

Sakiko is a teller at a bank, and her relation to money could not be called healthy. The men who rob the bank take her with them as they flee. Their car crashes on the road and a suitcase stuffed with cash falls into a nearby river. Sakiko’s real story starts there; she will risk anything to get that suitcase out. The film tells this not as a heist story but as the comedy of a single person’s obsession. The bond the woman has with money is the real subject. The eighty five minutes are spent in pursuit of one object. Naomi Nishida and Go Riju appear in Shinobu Yaguchi’s Japanese film, completed in 1997.
