Nairobi Half Life

Mwas is a young man from upcountry Kenya. He dreams of becoming an actor. He goes to Nairobi after that dream. The city promises him opportunity. But in his first days he loses everything. His money and his belongings are taken from him. He is left alone in a city where he knows nobody. He then comes up against the city’s world of crime. He makes friends with a small-time thief. The man takes him in. Mwas begins to live between two worlds. On one side is crime, on the other the dream of acting. Keeping the two apart grows harder and harder. Joseph Wairimu and Olwenya Maina take the leads in David Gitonga’s Kenyan and German coproduction of 2012.
