Nayola

The film is about the civil war in Angola. That war lasted twenty five years. The account follows women of three generations. The grandmother Lelena stays at home. Her daughter Nayola sets out in 1995. She is searching for her missing husband. The granddaughter Yara lives in the years that follow. The film moves between the present and the past. Each time explains the other. What the war left on these women holds the centre. The love between them finds room as well. The work is an animation. The film is adapted from a stage play. Agualusa and Mia Couto wrote the script. Elisângela Rita and Vitória Soares provide voices in the eighty four minute film, a Belgian, French, Dutch and Portuguese production José Miguel Ribeiro finished in 2023.
