Nicky's Family

Nicholas Winton was a young stockbroker working in London. At the start of 1939 he travelled to Prague. War was coming and families there were desperate. Winton set up an arrangement to get children out of the country. He drew up lists, found visas and money, and arranged families. Between March and August eight trains left. Six hundred and sixty nine children reached London. Most of them were the children of Jewish families. Winton told nobody about it for years. At the end of the eighties his wife found an old scrapbook at home. In it were names and photographs. Only then did the story come out. He met the rescued children on a television programme. The documentary uses both reenactment and archive footage. The rescued children and Winton himself tell it. By the time the film was made he was well past a hundred. Nicholas Winton appears in the ninety six minute documentary, a Czech and Slovak production Matej Mináč finished in 2011.
