Night Drive

Vysakh's 2022 Malayalam film follows a young couple out driving at night. There is an accident, and it lands on them. The policeman running the investigation and the political circle behind him enter the picture. The film squeezes the couple into a steadily narrowing space; the narrative runs across a single night and closes the escapes one at a time. Roshan Mathew and Anna Ben lead. The images are dark and the pace high. The violence is hard but limited. Who it's for: those who like Malayalam thrillers and films set in one night. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a realistic account of policing; the film follows genre form.
