What Night Passage Is About
Grant lost his railway job for letting an outlaw get away, and after five years drifting and earning his living on the accordion his old boss gives him a second chance: to carry ten thousand dollars in payroll quietly. The difficulty is that the man he let go is his own brother. The best known thing about the film is what happened behind it: after the great westerns James Stewart and Anthony Mann made together, Mann read this script, refused it, and the two never worked together again. Stewart really does play the accordion here.
