What Summer Magic Is About

Mrs Carey, a widow from Boston, is left without money when her husband dies and moves with her three children to a small town in Maine. Osh Popham, the postmaster, finds them an abandoned yellow house, fixes it up, and tells them the owner is away in Europe and will not be back for a long time. The family settle in, a cousin from the city comes to stay, and then an unexpected visitor turns up at the door. James Neilson's Disney film stars Hayley Mills and Burl Ives, adapted from Kate Douglas Wiggin's novel. The songs are by the Sherman brothers, and one of them, The Ugly Bug Ball, was remembered long afterwards.
