What Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow Is About
Dr Christopher Syn is the vicar of Dymchurch on the south coast by day; by night he becomes the masked rider known as the Scarecrow and leads a band of smugglers. What he is against are the tax collectors of George the Third and the naval press gangs, and what he is protecting is the people of Romney Marsh. Directed by James Neilson for Walt Disney Productions, it was adapted from Russell Thorndike’s Christopher Syn. A three part television version of the same material went out on Walt Disney’s colour programme in 1964; this ninety eight minute cinema cut had come out in Britain some months earlier.
