What Night Shift Is About
Chuck works the night shift at the city morgue and it is exactly the life he wants: nobody talks, nobody asks him for anything. Then a man named Bill is assigned to his shift, Bill has ideas without stopping, and one of them is to turn the morgue into the base of an escort operation. This is Ron Howard's second feature. Henry Winkler plays Chuck as the precise opposite of Fonzie, timid and perpetually apologising. It is Michael Keaton's first major film role and his entire later career is already in it, with the impossible business schemes he dictates into a tape recorder the best thing in the picture. Shelley Long takes the third corner. Who it is for: viewers who like eighties city comedies and early Keaton. Who it is not for: anyone uncomfortable with a plot that revolves around prostitution.
