What Nightcap Is About
Mika, heir to a Swiss chocolate firm, has remarried the celebrated pianist André Polonski; his first wife died in a crash years ago and his son Guillaume lives with them. A young piano student arrives at the house: Jeanne has learned she may have been swapped with Guillaume at the hospital the day they were born. The question of whose child is whose unsettles the household's quiet order, and what Mika stirs into the hot chocolate every evening comes into view. Chabrol builds the dread without raising his voice. Huppert's face barely changes throughout.
