Nobody Owns Me

Sweden in the seventies. After her mother leaves, Lisa stays with her father. He works in a factory, he is on the left, and he is an alcoholic; he loves his daughter and the drink comes before everything. As Lisa grows she both protects him and is isolated by him, and nobody around them understands the bond. It is adapted from the 2007 book in which Åsa Linderborg wrote about her own childhood. In Kjell-Åke Andersson's film Mikael Persbrandt plays the father and won Sweden's biggest film award for it. Linderborg publicly criticised the adaptation, saying the child in the book was not the child on screen. The film neither excuses the addiction nor flattens it into one thing.
