What Nobody's Watching Is About
Nico is a recognisable actor in Argentina, and in New York nobody turns to look at him. He tends bar, minds a baby and takes whatever work there is. He tries to fit American parts and neither his accent nor his look will do it. When old friends come up from Buenos Aires to visit, he has to manage the life he describes and the life he is living at the same time. Julia Solomonoff's 2017 film puts migration and invisibility in the same frame: a man who has to leave something out every time he explains himself. Guillermo Pfening plays it from the inside, without a trace of overstatement. Failure here is not shameful, just an ordinary daily condition.
