The Last Summer of La Boyita

Jorgelina is still a child; her older sister has entered adolescence and no longer wants to play with her. Jorgelina decides to spend the summer with her father at the farm in the countryside. Her refuge is an old camper van called the Boyita. There she finds her childhood friend Mario, a boy who works alongside his family, and that summer Mario is meeting something unexpected in his own body. Written and directed by Julia Solomonoff, the film is about an intersex young person entering adolescence. The telling does not build this as a secret, an illness or an incident; it moves through the trust between two children and exposes nobody. What is really at stake is what the people around a body do to it. The film was produced by Pedro Almodóvar's company El Deseo and started from the director's own memory.
