Noémie Says Yes

Noémie is fifteen and has lived in a youth centre for three years. When she loses all hope that her mother will take her back, she runs away from the centre. She goes to Léa, a friend from the centre, who introduces her to a group of young offenders. Zach, whom she meets there, soon proposes that she meet men for money over a weekend. Noémie resists at first, then says yes. The film’s title points at exactly that yes; how far the consent of a fifteen year old child can count as consent is the real question. The film takes this not as a way of life but as the exploitation of a child. Kelly Depeault and Emi Chicoine appear in Geneviève Albert’s hundred and sixteen minute Canadian film, completed in 2022.
