What North West Frontier Is About
A rising breaks out in the northern frontier province of colonial India. A British army captain, a small prince and the boy's governess have to get out of the city on a broken-down locomotive, pursued by rebels intent on killing the child. For the length of the journey the passengers argue about religion, empire and who is saving whom. J. Lee Thompson made one of the better films in the train-bound adventure shape, with Kenneth More and Lauren Bacall leading. It also builds the whole story from a British point of view and leaves the rebels largely an anonymous threat, and that side of its colonial framing is what draws the most criticism now.
