What Tiger Bay Is About
Gillie has grown up on the streets of Tiger Bay, the dockland district of Cardiff, and is an accomplished liar. One day she watches the Polish sailor Korchinsky kill his girlfriend in a rage. Instead of going to the police she picks up the revolver he leaves behind and runs. When the detective works out that she has the murder weapon, she spins him one lie after another, and in the meantime an unlikely bond forms between the child and the killer. J. Lee Thompson adapted a story by Noël Calef. John Mills plays the detective and his eleven-year-old daughter Hayley Mills plays Gillie. It was her first film, and it won her a Silver Bear at Berlin.
