Nothing But the Truth

A journalist publishes a story naming a covert agent and refuses to identify her source. The court sends her to prison. The film does not debate whether the story was true; its subject is what keeping her word costs a reporter, and what that cost does to her child, her marriage and her health. The narrative also shows the exposed agent's side, so nobody is entirely in the right. Rod Lurie wrote and directed. Kate Beckinsale and Vera Farmiga lead. It draws on the Valerie Plame affair, though the characters and events are invented. Before watching: the distributor's bankruptcy meant it barely reached cinemas and went straight to home release. That is why it is little known, and has nothing to do with its quality.
