Nothing Ever Happens

A French variety performer falls ill in a village near Burgos while on tour. When she has to stay for treatment, the company goes on without her. Her staying in the town turns the order of the small place upside down. The doctor treating her and the doctor’s wife are affected most of all. The film tests provincial morality through someone who has come from outside. How gossip works, and how a closed circle works, is the real subject. It comes from the vein of social criticism in Spanish cinema of 1963. Corinne Marchand and Antonio Casas appear in Juan Antonio Bardem’s ninety seven minute film, a joint French and Spanish production, completed in 1963.
