What Numbered Is About
About four hundred thousand people were tattooed with serial numbers at Auschwitz. Only a few thousand of them are alive today. The documentary speaks with some of those people. What they tell is both the days in the camp and their lives now. And their relationship with the number, which is not the same for any two of them. The film does not treat the number as a symbol; it listens to the person carrying it. What comes out is how memory goes on inside single lives. The sixty minutes are given to the accounts of a few people. Uriel Sinai and Dana Doron directed this Israeli documentary, completed in 2012.
