What O Grande Elias Is About
Elias lives a modest life. He has an aunt who lives in Brazil. For years he has written to her that he is rich. One day word arrives. The aunt is coming to visit. Elias panics. Instead of telling the truth he sets up a game. His neighbour’s house is empty just then. The neighbour is out of town. Elias passes that house off as his own for a while. He receives his aunt there. He has to take on help to keep the lie going. Every new detail tangles things a little further. The chance of the owner returning hangs over it all. The film tells this as a family comedy. António Silva and Francisco Ribeiro appear in the one hundred eighteen minute film, a Portuguese production Arthur Duarte finished in 1950.
