The Costa from Castelo

A small boarding house in Lisbon. Luisinha lives there with Rita and Januário, who are as good as parents to her. In the same house is Simplício Costa, the man everyone calls Costa from the Castelo: idle, but a remarkable guitarist. Luisinha meets André, the son of a wealthy family, and the balance of the house shifts. Arthur Duarte's Portuguese comedy is among the best loved classics of the country's own cinema. António Silva and Hermínia Silva take the leads. Fado is the film's main material and the Lisbon neighbourhood carries the whole atmosphere. The telling builds a simple love story on the relations between neighbours; nobody is wicked and nobody is very good.
