What Octobre Is About
The film is about what happened in Quebec in October 1970. One cell of an organisation seeking independence first abducted James Cross, the British trade commissioner; a few days later a second cell abducted the provincial minister Pierre Laporte, and the man was killed. The production tells the story of that second cell, through the eyes of the young men caught inside it. The account makes a hero of nobody and does not justify the killing; it looks at how a few days in a closed flat arrived at that end. Hugo Dube and Luc Picard appear in Pierre Falardeau’s ninety seven minute Canadian film, completed in 1994.
