Opening with torch-carrying villagers and a wall leaking oil, the film attaches to Animal Collective’s music not visuals but a world built alongside it. Danny Perez and the band called it a visual album: the scenarios were written to answer the music and the music to answer the scenarios, and none of these songs were released anywhere else. The band members appear as the principal characters. The project was announced in 2006 and took more than four years to finish. The fifty-three-minute film premiered at Sundance in January 2010 and came out on DVD that August.
