Cole Webley's 2025 American film follows a father who puts his two children in the car and drives west across America. The children take it for a holiday; there is something the man has not told them, and across the journey the viewer begins to understand it before they do. The film's strength is delaying the explanation and limiting what is known to the children's view. John Magaro's performance carries a collapse held down. The story sits against the background of the economic crisis of 2008, never named. The road imagery is strong. The subject is heavy and the ending shattering. Who it's for: viewers who like American independent road films and quiet drama. Who it's not for: anyone wanting a hopeful close, or avoiding content involving danger to children.
