What On Approval Is About
In Victorian England two aristocrats who have run out of money set about courting two wealthy widows; their intentions are plain and the women know it. One of the widows proposes to settle the matter directly: she and her suitor will stay a month in a house in Scotland and see whether they suit each other. Once the four are together in the same house the politeness falls away and what everyone actually wants comes out. Clive Brook’s eighty minute British comedy was adapted from a play, and besides directing he takes one of the leads, with Beatrice Lillie, Googie Withers and Roland Culver in the cast. It was completed in 1944.
