On Distant Shores

Mehdi Huseynzade was from Azerbaijan. He fought as a partisan in the Second World War. Where he fought is present day Italy and Slovenia. The name he took was Mikhailo. That is the name he became known by. He was among the most wanted men in Yugoslavia and around Trieste. The film tells his life. Its title points to the shores of the Adriatic. There is an infiltration in the story as well. An agent comes from the German side. He presents himself as Mikhailo. What he wants is to reach the real one. So the film turns into a game of identity. It was shown in Germany in 1959 as well. The title it carried there pointed to Trieste. Nodar Shashigoglu and Alasgar Alakbarov appear in the eighty nine minute film, a Soviet production Tofig Taghizadeh finished in 1958.
