Onaayum Aattukkuttiyum

Mysskin's 2013 Tamil film takes place across a single night. Chandru, a medical student, finds a man who has been shot in the street and, instead of taking him to hospital, operates on him with what he has. The man is a contract killer, and that decision places Chandru between the police and the gangs. The form carries Mysskin's known signature: low camera angles, shots concentrating on feet, long silences and classical music. Violence is not shown and is mostly conveyed through sound. Mysskin plays the killer himself and gives the character almost no dialogue. The narrative is built on a moral question: does saving a life require looking at what that life has done. The film gives no answer and sustains Chandru's decision to the end. Who it's for: those who like formally distinctive Tamil thrillers. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a fast narrative; the film is deliberately slow and quiet.
