Once Upon a Deadpool

This is not a separate film but a PG-13 recut of Deadpool 2. Fox released it on 12 December 2018. What is new is the frame. Nodding to The Princess Bride, Deadpool tells the story to Fred Savage, skipping the frightening parts that were a bit too adult for the youngster. The idea came from Ryan Reynolds. The screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote the new scenes and the director David Leitch shot them in a single day in August 2018. The rest is largely unchanged, with the violence and language trimmed to PG-13 thresholds. The reception was mixed. Wernick said the version was subversive enough and fun and creative and something only Deadpool could do. It is not a new instalment but a second theatrical run timed for the holidays; the original had taken 786 million dollars worldwide. Who it is for: people who liked Deadpool 2 and are curious about the framing joke. Who it is not for: anyone watching for the first time. The cuts leave some scenes feeling incomplete, and this is not the real version.
