One Night

Havana. Raul is accused of assaulting a tourist at the restaurant where he works and has to get out of the city. There is one place in his head: Miami, ninety miles away. He asks his friend Elio for help. The two start building a raft out of inner tubes, boards and whatever they can steal. When Elio's twin sister Lila finds out, she will not let them go alone. One night the three of them push off. The water, the sun and the ninety miles take far longer than they reckoned. Lucy Mulloy directs; ninety minutes, with a cast found on the streets of Havana. The film showed at Tribeca in 2012, but on the way to the screening two of the young actors disappeared and requested asylum in the United States. They ended up doing the thing they had played.
