Dreux and Alyssa share an apartment in Baldwin Village, Los Angeles. When Alyssa's boyfriend spends the rent, the two of them have until six in the evening to find 1,500 dollars. The film follows that single day straight through. Keke Palmer leads, and SZA acts for the first time and holds her own. Issa Rae is among the producers. On a 14 million dollar budget it grossed over 51 million worldwide, well past expectations. Rotten Tomatoes has it at 94 percent with a consensus that Palmer and SZA dish out enough laughter and chemistry to spare. CinemaScore audiences gave it an A minus. It also has a place in the record: it is the first theatrically released R-rated Black women's comedy since Girls Trip in 2017. Who it is for: viewers who like single-day friendship comedies and neighbourhood films descended from Friday. Who it is not for: anyone wanting structured plotting. The film is deliberately a chain of accidents and repeats itself in places.
