Am I Racist?

Matt Walsh enters the world of diversity and inclusion training under a false identity. In a wig and another name he joins workshops, pays for sessions, arranges meetings with trainers and records the conversations. Then he obtains a trainer's certificate himself and runs a workshop of his own. The film shows those meetings and workshops; the aim is to set out how the concepts and the fees in that field work. Justin Folk directs. It was made by a conservative media company and released in 2024. The method is hidden filming and playing a part; some participants did not know they were being recorded, and that is at the centre of the argument. It reached box office figures unexpected for a documentary in America. Some people appearing in it later said the footage was taken out of context and objected to the method. The form is close to the mockumentary tradition; the narrator deliberately plays a naive character. The view the film argues is open and the narrative gives the other side no right of reply. It entered circulation as part of a political argument and both sides used it in their own frame. Who it is for: people who watch political satire and contested documentary. Who it is not for: the method is disputed, the narrative one sided, and the film aims to persuade rather than inform.
