Pammal K. Sambandam

Mouli's 2002 Tamil film follows Sambandham, who works as a film stuntman. He is injured on a shoot and undergoes surgery; the doctor who operates leaves her watch inside him, and that begins a long-running feud between them. The humour comes from the accident not staying small. Both are proud; every encounter produces a new score to settle and the narrative shows that cycle in detail. The stunt profession also supplies a background. Kamal Haasan leads and performs some of the fight sequences himself. Simran plays opposite him. The narrative follows the template of Tamil romantic comedy; the woman's professional standing, though, is built relatively strongly for the period. Who it's for: those who like 2000s Tamil comedy. Who it's not for: viewers troubled by conflict between the sexes used as comic material; the film uses it repeatedly.
