Papa, Mama, the Maid and I

The residents of an apartment building in Montmartre are an assortment of oddities. The son of a professor couple falls for a student who works as a live-in help to make her pocket money. What the family will say, what the young woman wants and what the neighbours will stir up is what the film turns around. Among them is Monsieur Calomel, forever inventing something. Directed by Jean-Paul Le Chanois, this French comedy shows apartment life in fifties Paris as a neighbourhood: doors open, everybody in everybody else's business. Robert Lamoureux plays the son, Nicole Courcel the young woman, and Gaby Morlay and Fernand Ledoux the parents. Louis de Funès, still unknown, is in a supporting part. The film's success brought a sequel the following year.
